“I am really impressed by the Streetart Festival and have only received positive feedback from guests and other gastronomic colleagues. If I could use a superlative, I would say: awesome. It was a great atmosphere and the restaurants also benefited from it.”
Stefan Mühlemann, managing director, co-owner of the brewery and board member of Gastro Thurgau.
“My expectations were far exceeded: families and couples everywhere or groups of all ages marveling at the works of art; surprising encounters; direct congratulations to the colorful, lively city — that made me extremely happy and confirmed that such events are vital for a community. A big thank you to everyone involved!”
Anders Stokholm, Mayor of Frauenfeld
“I've never seen so many amazed and delighted people roam the streets of Frauenfeld — most of them with the street art plan in their hands. I felt like I was on vacation in a big city! A wonderful success, which I heartily congratulate the association, the OC and the artists for their huge work!”
Christof Stillhard, cultural representative, Frauenfeld
Sunday, June 4 at around 6 pm; the last brush stroke on the 33rd mural is done, visitors dance to salsa on Freiestrasse and little by little, the artists are also starting their journey home. The first Frauenfeld street art festival draws a consistently positive balance. City President Anders Stokholm is also enthusiastic about the festival and the modern, expressive art that the city now offers. He himself deliberately did not look at the subjects and works until the media tour, says Stokholm. Like all visitors, he wanted to be surprised and spontaneously lent himself when an artist pushed a spray can into his hand.
Around 20,000 visitors strolled through the city. Alone, as a couple, as a family or in larger groups, they set out on the tour. Students were also out and about with the street art map on Friday. The sold-out guided tours carried out by Thurgau Tourism, as well as the queues for workshops and temporary tattoos, also showed that the festival was met with great interest.
Around 79 works of art were created at the Street Art Festival. 33 of them are murals, i.e. murals on buildings. These remain and are part of the cityscape. The situation is different with the installations and graffiti walls that were created during the jam in Lindenpark. These will be dismantled again after September 30, 2023.
At the Street Art Festival in Frauenfeld, the artists explored the buildings and the surrounding area in advance. The result is unique pieces, some of which also take up the stories of the houses and therefore not only bring color to the city, but also contain historical stories.
Almost 700 artists from over 100 countries applied for the festival.
A total of 67 artists have created 79 works of art alone or as a collective. Some works took over two weeks.
