Anyone who thinks street art is only for the younger generation is mistaken. As part of the Frauenfeld Street Art Festival, two institutions for the elderly are involved and will be part of this major art festival from June 2 — 4, 2023.
The large building of the Reutenen 1 retirement settlement is particularly suitable for an art painting from the street art scene, said Hansjörg Stettler, president of the Frauenfeld retirement settlement cooperative, when he was asked by the organizers. “I'm always open to new things and immediately thought that such a big picture was not only beautiful but also cheers up,” says Stettler, who was a member of the board of the Frauenfeld Bildschule for a long time and has an affinity for general art. But he didn't just want a painting, but a work of art that involved the residents and inspires everyone. That is why, together with the board and management, he launched a competition in which everyone could take part. A total of ten artists submitted sketches, which were up for the vote and offered to run head-to-head. Finland's Anetta Lukjanova won.
And by the way, the cooperative is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
The Park retirement center is also receiving a work of art. And in a special way. The Cup of Color artist collective gives residents unforgettable moments, because they can help create part of the painting with their grandchildren. Even before the street art festival, the youngest with their grandparents and with brush and paint transform the wall into a joint work of art. Acting city councilwoman Elsbeth Aepli is also behind this project. ”In summer 2022, we discussed the planned street art festival for the first time in the city council. I was impressed by more color and art in the city. Our partner city Kufstein also has several murals and I was told that the feedback from the population was positive. That is why I am looking forward to the work of art that will soon decorate the façade of Haus Talbach.”
